Seminar Theme

Over 6,000 people die on Malaysian roads each year. Another 9,000 suffer serious injuries from road accidents which often result in physical disability, trauma, loss of employment and lasting pain, suffering and financial burden to the family. About 20,000 incur minor injuries, not to mention losses due to damages to vehicles and road infrastructures. The cost to society is enormous. Road safety needs to involve everybody. It is a complex problem. The complexity and difficulty of the problem require creative solutions which are necessarily multi-dimensional and multi-disciplinary. Road safety solutions require input from different expertise, ranging from road engineering to public health, emergency services, sociology, psychology and child development, vehicle technology, information technology, computing, etc. as well as the general public. If well structured the opportunities can be plenty for private business, the government, non-governmental organizations and local communities to play a role in reducing road accidents and saving lives.

Speakers in this seminar will outline the issue and challenges and opportunities for small businesses, large corporations, local government authorities, research institutions, universities and local communities. People and organizations can get involved in saving lives as a commercial business or as voluntary community work. The seminar will also discuss the types of funding that can be explored and raised to finance road safety ideas and activities. This will also be a seminar to get feedback and recommendations from concerned participants.
