IPv6 and the Next Generation Internet

The next generation of the Internet will use the latest version of the Internet Protocol, namely IPv6. IPv6 has a much larger address space than today’s IPv4. Its widespread deployment will ease the problems we are facing with address depletion with IPv4. One of the main challenges for the deployment of IPv6 is the large installed base of IPv4 routers and networks. A variety of transition mechanisms have been proposed, involving tunneling, dual-stack and so on.
