Signing ceremony between MUST and ITS Konsortium

A signing ceremony between MUST and ITS Konsortium Sdn. Bhd. was held on Monday, 10th February 2003.

Both MUST and ITS Konsortium will collaborate for a sponsored research agreement amounting to RM 2.0 million to develop a traffic simulation model which can be utilized to study traffic flows in the Klang Valley. This traffic simulation model complements the implementation of the Integrated Transport Information System (ITIS) Project for the Klang Valley and the Multimedia Super Corridor by ITS Konsortium Sdn Bhd.

MUST has proposed the adoption of MITSIMLab, a Microscopic Traffic SIMulation Laboratory, initially developed at MIT, which will be further enhanced and calibrated to local road and driver characteristics to efficiently manage the road corridors contained in the ITIS project. Traffic simulation is an effective approach to study traffic flows following an implementation of an Intelligent Transport System or changes or upgrades to the road network. Simulation also provides a laboratory for formulating response plans, testing alternative scenarios, and answer what-if questions. In this project, individual vehicles are modelled in detail for the duration of their entire trip, providing accurate and dynamic information about traffic flow, transit time and congestion.

During the signing ceremony, MUST was represented by its Vice-President - Research and Resource Development, Prof. Ghazally Ismail, and ITS Konsortium Sdn. Bhd. represented by its Chief Executive Officer, Sheikh Yahya bin Sheikh Mohamed..Also present were En. Dzulkifly Zain VP of Operations MUST, Prof Zanuldin and Assoc. Prof . Dr Chan and his team from the Center of Transportation Studies , MUST.

MUST is a collaborative program between MUST Ehsan Foundation and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and was established to serve as the nucleus for a high technology research and development infrastructure.

This research program is in line with MUST's mission to produce leaders and critical thinkers in science and technology, trained in entrepreneurship and who can develop and manage world-class technologies.
