MUST Library

Being the central facility to support the teaching, learning and research activities of the university, the Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST) Library is equipped with the most state-of-the-art facilities such as computer workstations with high performance Internet connection, wireless network facility for individual study and project work. More importantly the online learning resources are accessible from anywhere at any time and most cases student doesn't have to come in person to the library because almost everything is provided electronically that are available in the library right on their desktop. In addition to that, printed journals and books are also subscribed as to complement and enrich the collection of MUST Library.

The Library is also integrated with an integrated library system known as GEAC/Advance that allows students to not only search and locate materials in physical format but also view some of the formats on their computers, especially that are available in digital format. Users should be able to access other libraries throughout the world all the way through MUST Library homepage at http://library.must.edu.my.

Other services

Journal collection

MUST Library also subscribes to a number of journals mostly in electronic format that can be accessed at any time, any place 24 hours a day via Internet connection. The E-journals are provided by some leading online providers in the world such as ACM Digital Library, Science Direct, NSTP E-media, EBSCO, JSTOR and etc. Students also have access to several scholarly printed journals published by the well known publishers particularly for Biotechnology, Transportation and Logistics, Information Technology, Construction Engineering and Management and Materials Science and Engineering programmes.

Open Collection

MUST Library have sufficient number of books for loans. Most of the titles acquired are the most recent publications published by the scholarly publishers. Students of MUST can borrow up to a maximum of 6 titles at any one time and the duration of loans would be two weeks with one renewal.

Reserve Collection

This collection houses all the basic reading materials recommended by the lecturer for various courses. Items in this collection include course readers, special reports and highly demanded materials by the students. Loans of these items are on an hourly basis.

Computer Loan Program

MUST Library is the first ever library in this country that provides laptop loan facility to its students and faculty members. Presently, there are wireless laptops available for loan which may be connected to the network of the university and the internet everywhere within the MUST campus without using internet cables.

Computing facility

There are 16 Dell Optiplex GX240 & GX260 computers bundled with the Microsoft Office 2000 Suite application, and with full access to MUST Library's services and the Internet. All of these computers allow users to get accessed via World Wide Web to the library homepage (electronic and online databases, library catalog and many other library services in addition to Stellar, e-mail and Internet connections.

Multimedia area

In the Multimedia area, there are 18 seating with power and network ports available for general use. Stationed through this area are 13 Dell Optiplex that are intended for accessing library web services or any other university's services such as Stellar web links, MUST academic calendar, class timetable, course description and etc. The library reading area and discussion rooms have data ports and electrical outlets conveniently at hand so that users can both use them and connect to the campus network.

Reference Service

Reference assistance is available on library's open hours. The primary purpose of the service to guide students, faculty, staff and researchers at point of need to resources that can accelerate the process of identifying and retrieving information for research, study, teaching or personal use. Library users may be helped to discover the rich collections on the MUST Library, identify and use electronic and print reference tools, locate research materials.

Discussion rooms

MUST Library also has two air-conditioned discussion rooms which are available for use by the university's community, especially for group work. As both rooms are at adjacent, therefore both can be combined to allocate a larger group of users. These two rooms are book able and also available on a first-come-first-served basis. Each room is equipped with 4 chairs, 3' X 6' table and a whiteboard. Only room 1 is equipped with a personal computer with 15-inch LCD flat screen model.

Reading area

The reading area within MUST Library is equipped with wireless-based technology to enable laptop users to connect to the campus network. All library electronic resources are available from anywhere within the library area so as to support the educational mission of MUST. At present, the library reading area provides four reading tables with 4 seats each table. Besides that, users have ample and open reading space as a long curve table facing the outside view with seating of up to 10 chairs is provided.

Carrel

MUST Library provides 14 carrels that equipped with power and network points for laptops to be connected to the MUST campus network

Photocopy service

MUST Library also provide a self-service photocopy cum printer machine located in the multimedia area for library users and staff. The machine operates on a disposable copy card and may be purchased at the library circulation counter.

Library Liaison Program

The Library Liaison Program is the platform to establish an ongoing partnership with the teaching faculty. The liaison also acts as a channel for obtaining information from the academic community regarding issues, such as library collection development, issues that affect its services, faculty-specific resources, procedures for requesting new materials and etc. Library staffs have been designated as liaison officers for each program.
