MUST Futsal Friendly Match

The MUST futsal team, comprising almost 20 staff and students, converged on the futsal centre in Taman Megah on June 17th for our long-awaited competitive friendly against the Kelab Melawati team. Anticipation was high as it had emerged that the Melawati team included two former national players as well as many seasoned, regular footballers.

Fortunately, the MUST contingent were no walk-overs either as prior to this we had been undergoing intensive training sessions every week under the watchful eyes of team manager Encik Badly Shah. The result was that we came well prepared and with our two star strikers Scott and Teh in devastating form, we certainly gave them a run for their money. Barely one minute into the game, MUST took an early lead following a delightful sequence of one-touch passes which was duly converted by Scott.

Unfortunately, Melawati hit right back with a controversial goal when their striker marginally beat the offside trap to tap the ball past goalkeeper Poh. Soon after, Melawati capitalised fully on the confusion resulting from this goal to strike again and despite a number of near misses, MUST was never able to regain the initiative. Nevertheless, full credit must be given to the MUST team who never allowed Melawati to relax. Goalkeeper Poh, who was in uncompromising form, was unanimously voted as the man-of-the-match after a string of spectacular saves.

In view of such determination and passion from the home side, and given the anticipated influx of new talent when the transfer window opens in July, it is safe to say that MUST will be able to mount an even more effective challenge during the away leg of the match, to be held in August.

On a more serious note, MUST would like to express its appreciation and pride for the 100% effort and great spirit demonstrated by our boys. Although this was our first real "competitive" match (and with relatively little preparation), we gave a good account of ourselves and we are confident that we will be able to give them a better match next time round.
