The MSc programme offers a perspective on the changes and challenges facing the industry, and prepares students for a wide variety of career opportunities, not only in construction firms, but also in owner organizations, government agencies, engineering and design firms, and other companies that supply important materials and products to the industry. The theoretical foundations of the discipline of construction engineering and management are covered in the areas of decision sciences, construction management, and construction technology. The goal of the programme is to teach graduate students how to apply what they learn to the discovery, development, and advancement of technology, analytical methods, and management strategies to improve productivity, quality, and competitiveness within the industry's domestic and international markets.
Through education, research, and work-study, a unique group of academic and industry leaders guides students as they learn how to meet these demands and shape the industry's future. Students may select other subjects at MUST that are most appropriate to their individual backgrounds and interests.
The MSc courses have been specially selected from the curriculum at MIT to match the requirements of the Malaysian construction industry. Each course will be supported by a faculty at MIT and MUST.
In addition, students will be required to participate in a research programme under the supervision of a faculty member in the third semester.
Some projects focus on developing and adapting new and emerging technologies to the products and processes used in construction. Other projects seek to balance the demands for new types of construction with changes in the financial resources, labor, equipment, and materials required to complete a project. One area of investigation is the trend toward the privatization of projects involving domestic infrastructure and international industrial development. Construction students study management as it relates to the firm, project, and industry. Students learn about contributions by the construction industry to socioeconomic growth and development and the trends controlling productivity, as well as the influence of the procurement system on the EPC industry.
Required Academic Preparation Coursework
Relevant prerequisite includes a Bachelor's degree in engineering, applied sciences, mathematics, economics, or management.
