Malaysia University of Science and Technology (MUST) held its first Open Day on Saturday, 28 th February 2004 . It was officially launched at 10.30 a.m. by the MUST President, Y Bhg Tan Sri Datuk Dr. Ahmad Tajuddin Bin Ali. The main objectives of the Open Day were to create awareness of the existence of MUST among the public and prospective students, to provide an opportunity for potential students and their families and friends to visit MUST and see for themselves what MUST has to offer, and also to showcase MUST's academic and research programmes.
The first visitors came sharp at the advertised starting time of 10.00 a.m. Among the programmes held that day were meetings with faculty members, talks on each of the seven MSc programmes to be offered this year, talks on financial aid and admission procedures, discussions sessions between prospective individual students and faculty members, and a tour of the university’s facilities. To add some fun and lightheartedness to the day, souvenirs were given out and guests were invited to participate in a lucky draw.
Most of the visitors were new graduates, usually accompanied by family members, and young working adults. There were also researchers at other institutions who were interested in knowing more about MUST and its research activities. A few visitors were from outside the Klang Valley and had specially came that day to see for themselves MUST’s
facilities, as they had family members who were considering enrolling this
year. The typical response from the visitors were that their visit has helped
them obtain a better idea of what MUST is and what it has to offer. Overall,
the Open Day was judged to have been successful at achieving the objectives
set. The Open Day ended at 6.00 pm.
