MTL 705 Advanced Traffic Management

This course introduces concepts and advanced processes involving Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) for control and management of traffic flow and demand. The primary objective is to give students knowledge and understanding of the range of traffic management processes and supporting ITS applications available for improved efficiency and safety of road traffic, and design/evaluation skills relating to the these applications and their integration. Applications in this course will emphasize the current concern for congestion management, congestion pricing, demand management, parking issues, public transport management, city logistics management, speed calming, road transport telematics, all in the context of the multiple objectives and state-of-the-art ITS perspective. Also, the course will offer an insight in the typical traffic management issues in developing countries and especially in developing mega polis.

The course uses example from Asian, North and South American metropolitan area extensively to give the students right kind of exposure in order to be able to cope with the complex problem of traffic management issues.
