MIT506 Global Information Systems: Communications and Connectivity among Information Systems

Instructor: Dr Nor Adnan, Dr Stephane Bressan, Dr Ali Selamat

The strategic importance of information technology is now widely accepted. It has also become increasingly clear that the identification and development of individual strategic applications does not result in success for an organization. A careful coordination of strategic applications, technologies, and organizational structures must be made to attain success. By combining communications and connectivity issues to support the integration of systems in the context of increasingly global strategies and organizations, this course is especially relevant to those who wish to effectively exploit information technology in their organizations.

The course emphasizes more on recent developments, mostly from the fields of Heterogeneous Distributed Database Management Systems, Web Services, and the Semantic Web that would be useful in addressing logical connectivity issues.
